Your driver meets you in the airport terminal at Geneva. Once you're in the vehicle, packed and ready, we head off towards the French Alps.
We follow the A41 towards Annecy, then drive close to Lac d'Annecy. This is a particularly picturesque part of the journey if you're travelling during the day, since the mountains rise up behind the lake, and you'll start to feel closer to the slopes.
Through Albertville and up to Val Thorens
After Annecy, we join the motorway past Albertville, host city of the 1992 Winter Olympics. About 20 minutes later, we pass the small town of Moûtiers, where the road splits — one route heads towards Les Menuires and Val Thorens, the other towards Méribel and Courchevel.
From there, we climb for another 40km, so there's plenty of time to enjoy the twists and turns of this long mountain road. Our driver will have your accommodation's GPS location, or often know it by heart, and will take you directly to the door.
Journey Planning – Geneva to Val Thorens
The busy change over days in the Alps are Saturdays and Sundays. Saturdays can be the most active, so we recommend that Saturday travellers book early flights, landing as early as possible at Geneva airport.
This will avoid the afternoon traffic build-up, which is guaranteed as we get closer to the mountains of the Tarentaise valley. Lots of people drive in from all over Europe.
Saturday afternoons are busy in both directions, so it's a similar situation for the return journey to the airport.
To enjoy a super swift transfer with less traffic, book very early flights or very late ones.
Supermarket Stops on the Way to Val Thorens
A stop at a supermarket on the valley floor lets you arrive fully prepared at your accommodation. Especially if you are in a self-catered chalet or apartment in Val Thoren. Supermarkets in the resort are always more expensive than the bigger ones, at the foot of the mountains.
Our shop stop on the route from Geneva to Val Thoren is the Carrefour at Moûtiers. It's a big supermarket so you'll be able to purchase every necessity.

Geneva airport has two terminals. We have designated meeting points at both. You'll be notified of the meeting points on the booking confirmation.
The Return Journey Val Thorens to Geneva
Once you've completed your booking, you'll receive an estimated pick-up time for the return journey by email.
It's always an estimate, since we can't predict mountain weather, and any changes can shift the pick-up time. We keep a close eye on traffic and snow reports in each resort, since our main concern is getting you to your flight on time.
With that in mind, around 4pm the day before your journey, we'll send a confirmation of pick-up time by email and text, along with your driver's name and mobile number.
A standard transfer from Val Thorens to Geneva takes around 2.5 hours. In good weather with clear traffic, expect pick-up around 4.5 to 5 hours before your flight.

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in The Three Valleys ski area (Les Trois Vallées) sitting at an impressive 2,300 metres. It can't be beaten for snow-sure skiing.
The purpose-built ski resort has 140 km of pistes in Val Thoren alone. It is then connected to Méribel, Courchevel, Brides les Bain, Menuires, St Martin de Belleville and Orelle.
If you buy a full Three Valleys ski pass you have access to a total 600 km of pistes.
There is a big beginners ski area - great for children and adults. Children use the magic carpets and nursery slopes near the Rond Pont des Pistes. The 2 Lacs chairlift will take learners up to a green run which comes straight back down to Val Thorens centre, so its a wonderful place to practise.
We wouldn't call Val Thoren cute or traditional, but it certainly ticks all the boxes for facilities. If you are looking for a more traditional town stay at Brides les Bains which is close by.

Val Thorens is part of The Three Valleys so it's connected to Méribel and the villages of Les Menuires and Reberty.
The Three Valleys is a huge ski area so it's most likely you'll not feel the need to leave. If you are staying for just a week you'll find it hard to run out of pistes and restaurants.
It's also a very high resort, so time is added to the journey just in driving down the mountain to the valley floor.
However, there are always those of you that want to visit another ski area for a day.
La Plagne is just 1 hour 30 minutes from Val Thoren by road. La Plagne is connected with Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs by a huge cable car that spans the valley known as The Vanoise Express. The area is collectively known as Paradiski and is well worth a visit.
