Peisey-Vallandry resort guide

Peisey-Vallandry is one of the villages in the Les Arcs ski area. Les Arcs and La Plagne  together combine to make one of the largest ski areas in Europe with at total of 425 kilometres of piste.

Access to the pistes

The Peisey lift station located at 1650 metres in Plan-Peisey, or from the Vallandry lift in Vallandry. From the lower village of Peisey, locals and visitors can use the famous 'Lobster Pots' (or Lonzagne lift) for free transportation to the lift.

Plan-Peisey is connected to La Plagne via the Vanoise Express, a cable car that spans the divide between the Peisey-Vallandry/Les Arcs ski area and La Plagne. The 180 person cable car, which was built in 2003, stretches 1.8 kilometres and is elevated 380 metres above the valley floor.

Peisey-Vallandry is nestled comfortably into the tree line and enjoys skiing for all levels.

Beginner skiers

There is an excellent beginners area with easy lifts that are separated from the advanced skiers. There's a selection of very wide open pistes and easy runs winding through the trees.

Intermediate skiers

The pistes of Peisey-Vallandry are varied and have an abundance of intermediate runs. Over 50% could be considered intermediate level - a fun place for families to enjoy.

Intermediate skiers and snowboarders will find the Peisey-Vallandry area a brilliant place to hone skills. There are wide open blues and not-too-tricky reds that will keep you entertained for months.

Advanced skiers

An abundance of skiing for the more advanced is available, with lots of relatively easily accessible off piste such as La Grive (local knowledge and stable conditions required) as well as masses of tree runs from the Derby chairlift.

Ski schools in Peisey-Vallandry

ESF Peisey-Vallandry: ESF instructors are trained at the Ecole Nationale de Ski et d'Alpinisme and specialise in all snowsports, including: alpine skiing, carving, slalom, snowboard, snowblade, télémark, skicross, freeride, off piste, ski touring, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and handiski.

Ski Aim: AIM Snowsports ski school provides safe, fun and enjoyable ski lessons across Les Arcs, including Arc 1600Arc 1800Arc 1950Arc 2000 and Peisey-Vallandry, as well as snowboard lessons and off-piste guiding.

Airports close to Peisey Vallandry

Chambery airport is the closest airport with travel time around 1 hour 45 minutes to cover the 106.KM.

Geneva airport is our most popular airport for transfers to Peisey Vallandry due to the amount of flight options into here. Its also a very reliable airport. Travel time is around 2 hours 40 minutes to cover the 145 KM. We offer private and shared transfers from Geneva, for our shared option please go to our shared transfer page.

Lyon St Exupery is located 191 KM west of Peisey Vallandry and will take around 2 hours 20 mins travel time. Transfers from Lyon are priced a bit higher due to parking fees, the motorway time and tolls.

Grenoble Alpes-Isére is again around the 190 KM mark to Peisey and will take around 2 hours 20 mins. Transfers from Grenoble are priced a bit higher due to the parking fees, motorway time and tolls.

Things to do in Peisey-Vallandry

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors to Peisey-Vallandry can take part in a range of fantastic mountain sports. With a broad selection of shops and a cinema, there is plenty to keep visitors occupied when they’re not on the slopes.

Action and sport

Cross country skiing (nordic), snowshoeing, ice climbing and paragliding. We highly recommend paragliding (parapente in French) for an amazing birds-eye view of the valley.

With animals

Activities with animals are available beyong Nancroix, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. These include husky sledding,  horse-drawn sleigh riding and a walk with reindeers.

Relaxation and well being

For those in the group that would like a day to relax, there is a large spa in Plan-Peisey called L'Orée des Cimes offering treatments and packages.  The Vanoise Hotel offers treatments, and a swimming pool, small sauna and a hot tub over looking the piste.

Yoga lessons with Bec Black are regularly available in the school in Peisey village.  Check the website for times.


For those who culture, architecture or religion, Sainte Trinité church in Peisey-Nancroix is well worth a visit.


Vallandry boasts its own cinema, where two films are screened each day in the winter. An extra film will be shown if the weather is very bad.

Events in Peisey-Vallandry

Summer or winter, there is always a vibrant atmosphere in Peisey-Vallandry and across the Paradiski ski area; however, certain times of the year offer particularly special activities and events.

Christmas and New Year are always celebrated in a big way with festive markets, visits from santa claus, parties and fireworks. Easter is another important occasion at the resort.

    Squall of the deer - a family-friendly deer spotting event that takes place in Vanoise National Park.

    A free festival that gives participants the opportunity to try a range of Nordic activities including cross-country skiing, biathlon, snowshoeing and dog sledding.
  • Mardi Gras (5th March)

    A festival that celebrates the traditions and fashion of the Savoie region.

Après ski

Bar Mont Blanc

Situated at the bottom of the Grizzly lift, Bar Mont Blanc is the busiest place for Après ski in the area. They offer live music once a week, a comedy night and DJ’s often frequent the terrace. Food is available at lunch and dinner, such as pizzas, nachos, sausage and mash.

Paolo’s Snack Bar

Paolo’s sits at the top of the Peisey lift, and is a wonderful place to soak up the sun, the views and a glass of wine at the end of the day. Do also visit if you are feeling hungry – the word snack does not do the large portions justice.
