Lyon Airport to Les Arcs

Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport is about 195 km west of Les Arcs, below is details information on the routes used by Mountain Rescue transfers.

In 2000 Lyon airport was named after the French writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Today when we pick you up from here you will find it is about 195km from Les Arcs and takes around 2 hours 45 mins to make the trip to the resort.

The parking for the airport is very close to the exit from the luggage area so its a swift exit from the airport and heading off in the direction of Chambéry down the good old A43.

Once past Chambéry you head on to the town of Albertville famous for holding the Olympics in 1992.

Onwards from Albertville is you will reach Moûtiers (access to the 3 Valleys ski area) and then Bourg Sainte Maurice home of the funicular that travels up to Les Arcs 1600 and the first point of access to skiing from 900 meters. From Bourg you will head up towards all of the Arcs, 1600, 1800, 1950 and finally 2000.

Mountain Rescue recommend you land relatively early in Lyon if travelling on a Saturday. This will help you avoid any traffic build up that usually occurs on the mountain roads later in the day. Departure time from any part of Les Arcs to Lyon will normally be around 5h 30 min before your flight time. This is subject to change.

From Lyon-Saint Exupéry, the route follows the A43 motorway past Chambéry towards Albertville — host of the 1992 Winter Olympics. From there it continues to Moûtiers, the gateway to the Three Valleys, then on to Bourg Saint Maurice at the foot of the mountain. The road then climbs through the Les Arcs villages: Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, and Arc 2000.

Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals area. The day before you travel, you'll receive an email and SMS with your driver's contact number and confirmed meeting time, so there's no confusion on arrival.

Saturdays in peak season see the heaviest traffic through the valley in the afternoon, so we recommend booking the earliest available flight into Lyon where possible — The A43 road to and from Lyon and Chambery can get busy in the afternoon so it makes a real difference to journey time.

For the return trip, we recommend allowing around 5 hours 30 minutes before your flight departure, with extra time built in on peak-season Saturdays when traffic is heaviest.

We provide free child, booster, and baby seats — just let us know ages and how many you need when you book. By law, children can't travel on laps, so please book a seat for each child.

Need to pick up supplies before you reach your accommodation? We can arrange a stop at Super U in Bourg Saint Maurice, right on the route — just book it in advance. Unscheduled stops en route are limited to brief 5-minute toilet breaks.

How long does the transfer take? Around 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on which Les Arcs village you're staying in and road conditions.

Where do we meet our driver at Lyon Airport? Your driver waits in the arrivals area. You'll get their name, number, and confirmed meeting time by email and SMS the day before you travel. Simply send them a Whatsapp or SMS when landed to make contact. 

What happens if my flight is delayed? Your driver will wait 90 minutes free of charge. After that, waiting time is charged at €25/hour where the driver's schedule allows; longer delays may need a new transfer booked at full rate.

Do you provide child seats? Yes — but they must be booked in advance. We offer free child, booster, and baby seats.

Can we stop for shopping on the way? Yes, we can arrange a stop at Super U in Bourg Saint Maurice if booked in advance.

Can you also take us to Peisey-Vallandry or Peisey-Nancroix? Yes — direct transfers are available. They're close to Arc 1600 on the slopes, but the road route is separate and takes around an hour longer to drive in winter.

Do you run summer transfers too? Yes — we operate year-round to Les Arcs and the wider Paradiski, Three Valleys, and Espace Killy areas, with bike box trailers included at no extra cost.

The Vanoise Express cable car links Les Arcs to La Plagne, together forming the Paradiski ski area — one of the largest linked ski domains in the world. Peisey-Vallandry sits just below Arc 1800 and shares Les Arcs' lift network. Confident skiers can reach Tignes and Val d'Isère for a day trip further afield.
