Chambery airport guide
In 1934 Aix-les-Bains was recognised as becoming a popular tourist destination and so a mixed military and civil aerodrome situated on the flat land close to Le Bourget Lake was proposed.
In 1990 ahead of the 1992 winter Olympics in Albertville the airport got a bit of a makeover in the form of a modern style terminal, a larger surface area and extended runways.
2000 saw the first weekly flights between Chambery and London Stansted implemented by Buzz and in 2001 the Dutch airline Transavia landed the biggest ever airplane to land at Chambery. A Boeing 757 with 220 passengers.
Things where in full swing for Chambery Airport by this time and of course with its proximity for so many ski resorts such as Courchevel, Tignes and La Plagne. the number of passengers passing through continued to rise.
In 2005 a new record of over 12000 passengers in one weekend meant they had to evolve even quicker. A new bus station was added in 2009 for ski holidaymakers to make their way to the resorts and facilities improved to handle the ever increasing number of passengers.
