Méribel

Méribel is situated right at the centre of The Three Valleys ski area, which is truly massive.

With 600km of piste available it is considered the largest ski area in Europe if not the world.

The resort of Méribel itself is made up 150km of pistes. Most are blues but around 25% are red and about 10% black. There are two main beginner zones.

As you ascend the mountain there are a few villages leading up to Méribel Centre at 1450m. First is Brides-Les-Bains at 600m, then Les Aulles at 1100m, Méribel Village is situated at 1400m then you reach Méribel Centre where there is easy access to the slopes and where most of the hotels, bars and restaurants are situated.

Méribel Mottaret is the next village along at 1750m and is the other main resort in the Les Allues valley. All villages are connected by a free shuttle bus and there is a gondola lift bringing guests up from Brides-les-Bains and Les Allues into the Centre.

The villages themselves are well maintained and still full of charm; the drive is pleasant and enjoyable.

Méribels location

The best thing about Méribel Centre is location. Where ever you stay in Méribel there is great access to the rest of The Three Valleys. For the experienced skier or snowboarder the options are endless.

Plan a day trip to either side of The Three Valleys and visit Val Thorens in one direction or Courchevel in the other.

The skiing here is spectacular, snow sure and quite often you will see chalet hosts digging their driveways clear after yet another big snowfall.

Fun facts - Méribel hosted the ice hokey and the women’s alpine skiing events in the 1992 Winter Olympics, and was the host for the acclaimed Altitude Festival in 2010.

Cross country skiing: 33km of cross country trails in two areas - Lac de Tueda in Mottaret and Altiport area of Méribel. Nordic ski classes are available from ESF Méribel.

Ski touring: For beginners and experts ski touring is a fabulous way to see Méribel's backcountry. Requires some fitness for walking. Always go with a guide. ESF offer ski touring in Méribel.

Husky sledding: With Whitetracks where you are in charge of your own sledge. You will be taken through woods, up and down hills.

Horse tour: Pulled by sledge, by ski-joering (skiing whilst being pulled by a horse) or on horse-back discover Méribel by horse.

Ice fall climbing: Climb on frozen water falls using specific ice axes and crampons. Starts at 12 years old.

Snowmobiling: 500cc motorbikes built for snow, to go up and down the pistes once the resort is closed.

Snowshoeing: Snowshoeing paths are based in the Parc de la Vanoise or the Tuéda Nature Reserve.  Or plan a longer trip with ESF.

Parc Olympique:  Olympic Park is where the public ice rink arena, swimming pool and spa are situated. There is a fitness centre, climbing wall for children and also meeting rooms if you need to do some business.
