Méribel resort guide

Méribel is situated right at the centre of The Three Valleys ski area, which is truly massive.

With 600km of piste available it is considered the largest ski area in Europe if not the world.

The resort of Méribel itself is made up 150km of pistes. Most are blues but around 25% are red and about 10% black. There are two main beginner zones.

As you ascend the mountain there are a few villages leading up to Méribel Centre at 1450m. First is Brides-Les-Bains at 600m, then Les Aulles at 1100m, Méribel Village is situated at 1400m then you reach Méribel Centre where there is easy access to the slopes and where most of the hotels, bars and restaurants are situated.

Méribel street

Méribel Mottaret is the next village along at 1750m and is the other main resort in the Les Allues valley. All villages are connected by a free shuttle bus and there is a gondola lift bringing guests up from Brides-les-Bains and Les Allues into the Centre.

The villages themselves are well maintained and still full of charm; the drive is pleasant and enjoyable.

Méribels location

The best thing about Méribel Centre is location. Where ever you stay in Méribel there is great access to the rest of The Three Valleys. For the experienced skier or snowboarder the options are endless.

Meribel Resor

Plan a day trip to either side of The Three Valleys and visit Val Thorens in one direction or Courchevel in the other.

The skiing here is spectacular, snow sure and quite often you will see chalet hosts digging their driveways clear after yet another big snowfall.

Fun facts - Méribel hosted the ice hokey and the women’s alpine skiing events in the 1992 Winter Olympics, and was the host for the acclaimed Altitude Festival in 2010.

Skiing in Méribel

Skiing with children

There is lots of fun to be had with children in Méribel including the Yeti park,  the Intuits piste by the Altiport run, Altai Dragon spotting - where children spot a dragon all the way down a blue piste, The Moon Wild - a path through a forest and Turn & Run where parents encourage skiing by chasing their children.

Beginners skiing

Méribel is a really good resort to learn skiing or snowboarding, with two nursery areas and 8 green pistes - which are the easiest pistes of all.

The two nursery (beginner) areas have free lifts so you can practise your new sport to your hearts content. These are the Zen Zone at Méribel Mottaret and the  Ski Cool zone which is the Altiport area of Méribel, accessed from Méribel village by Rhodos 1 & 2, the gondola.

Once you are equipped with a few skills you can take the Blanchot run starting at the top of Saulire Express 1 gondola. This takes you back to the Altiport area, then you can travel along Foret back into Méribel village.

Intermediate skiing

Once you are equipped with a few skills there are plenty of large blue and red runs to turn your skills to.

Advanced skiing

If the black and red runs are not enough to keep you entertained in Méribel guided ski touring is available. A wonderful way to improve skiing and to see more remote mountain areas.

Adaptive skiing

From driven skiing with ESF to learning to ski yourself, you will find Méribel full of options. Oxygène ski school offers adaptive ski lessons for visually or hearing impaired, amputees or a paraplegic. The Three Valleys is open to all.

Snowparks

Snowpark DC Area 43: With big half-pipe, little half pipe, boxes and jumps - small and large and a big air bag.

Elements park: A smaller park area, close to the village at the top of the Tougnete 1 lift. With boardercross and a minizone with soft impact boxes, rails and jibs. There is a picnic and BBQ area here too.

What we like about Méribel

  • The central location within The Three Valleys ski area.
  • Snow sure skiing.
  • Brilliant off piste.
  • Masses of bars, clubs and restaurants.
  • Picturesque wooden chalets.
