Les Gets

Les Gets ski resort is wonderful for families as they've really catered for the younger skier, with lots to do on and off the slopes. It holds the 'Famille Plus Montagne' accreditation - which is a national tourism label to approve the facilities and services available to families with children.

Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, Les Gets is well linked to Morzine, Avoriaz 1800 and Chatel.

The village is a traditional french farming village so it really does have a certain charm to it - this Savoyard area offers up a bit of culture and a unique local spirit. They are also making a big push to be more environmentally friendly so they get extra points.

The altitude of Les Gets is 1172m which means that the pistes back to the village are tree lined. There is a direct lift up to 1616m via the Chavannes Express - where you will find the beginner zone including nursery slopes plus easy access to the rest of the Portes du Soleil.

Skiing in Les Gets

On the slopes it is quiet during the week days - it gets slightly busier during the weekends as it is situated only an hour from Geneva airport but you'll still find it is less busy than other French ski resorts.

There is up to 120 km of pistes in Les Gets alone, but over the whole of the Portes du Soleil ski area you will find more like 650 km of pistes! So adults will also have plenty to do.

In Les Gets there are 14 drag lifts, 27 chairlifts, 3 cable cars and 5 Mountain lifts for walkers.

Beginner Skiers

9 green slopes, 24 blue slopes

Les Gets is well known for its wonderful beginner zone, where you and your family will find it easy and enjoyable to learn to ski. There are long winding blue slopes that can be used once you build up confidence, and they will take you all around the Les Gets area with great views to be enjoyed.

Intermediate Skiing

28 red slopes, 9 black slopes

For the more advanced - or adventurous - Les Gets offers plenty of more difficult runs, so whilst the rest of the group learn you can take your friends, or be guided, around 120km of piste. Or take an expedition to the joining resorts of Morzine and Avoriaz.

Skiing with Children

The Grand Cry sector is an area of green runs designed for families. The Indian run winds its way through the forest with music and lots of fun sections including tunnels and buffalo-inspired décor.  Indian tepees and wooden picnic tables at the bottom. Face painting in Trapper's Cabin. Real animals at the Grand Cry Ranch. Perform your best snow dance in 15 seconds in The Video Totem and create a souvenir video to share on social media.

Things To Do with Children

Outdoors

Ice skating - skate in Les Gets right in the village centre and toboggans are available to rent for younger children.

Sledding / sled dogs - for children from 2 to 12 years old. Didier and his seven beautiful sledge dogs take children on a 25 minute trip in the snow.

Electric snow mobile -  A zero emission activity, these electric snowmobiles are for children of 5-12 years and 12-17 years. Located at the Lac des Ecoles and Gentiane blue run below the Chavannes Express chair lift. Wear ski boots or regular shoes, other equipment provided.

Geocaching - use GPS to search for a container called a 'geocache'. Discover Les Gets paths in a fun way searching for geocaches scattered over the area.

Sledging - there are 5 slopes used for sledging in the Les Gets area. Vieux-Chêne : about 50m of slope / from 2 to 6 yrs, Chavannes : about 50m of slope / from 4 to 6 yrs, Perrières : 100 m of slope / children over 6yrs, Lac des Ecoles : about 40m of slope / from 2 to 5 yrs, Le Carry : about 25 m of slope / from 2 to 5 yrs, Merry-go-round. Helmets are advised.

Cani rando - a snowy hike where you are harnessed to a dog.

Indoors

Bowling - A bar and a bowling alley, perfect for evening entertainment or rainy days.

Cinema - Frequent showings. Closed on a Saturday.

The Museum of Mechanical Music - a beautiful collection of around 750 mechanical musical instruments, all in working order - carillons, music boxes, street organs, dance organs, fair organs, mechanical pianos, automatic accordions, violins and more. Animated tours.

Nurseries - there are two nurseries available in the winter for younger children. English speaking. Lots of fun for the children playing in the snow garden and gives parents a little break during their holiday.

Church - Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité - a beautiful tapestry is on show and you can see the organ which can be heard on Tuesdays.
