Avoriaz resort guide

Sorry, we will not be operating transfers from Geneva to Avoriaz this winter. Please get in touch if you would like us to recommend another option.

Morzine’s champion downhill skier Jean Vurnet was the inspiration behind the Avoriaz build and when it was created in the 1960s it was something of a revolutionary idea.

Its location Perched on the plateau 800 metres above Morzine makes Avoriaz the highest resort in the Port du Soleil

The buildings are mostly wooden clad apartment types that blend into the hillside and the majority of the accommodation is self catered.

The resort is completely traffic free which gives the resort a wonderful feel and makes it very safe for kids to run around.

Avoriaz has expanded over the years and still offers an exciting location for family holidays and gives high altitude to access the 650 km of piste that is the Port du Soleil ski area.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is situated at 1800 metres and linked to Morzine and Les Gets in France but also to Champéry and Morgins in Switzerland.

The ski area enjoys a good lift system with only a few very slow chuggers and the odd drag lift. It’s a brilliant resort for intermediates and skiers that like to travel distance rather than the challenge of extreme slops.

Azoriaz itself enjoys very snow sure skiing and the lows slops of the porte du Soleil manage very well in the sunny months after heavy investment in snow making machines to ensure the season last a well as it should.

The Avoriaz piste map shows four main ski areas to help groups end up on the type of pistes they prefer.

There is a beginner area with mostly green runs heading down to Morzine.

A family area with a mixture of manageable runs for and even a few reds and blacks.

The tree area which is mainly blues and you guessed it it takes you through the winding woods and fun wooden features.

Finally, the expert area full of challenging steep blacks and reds on the north facing slopes.
